(temporarily closed!! Sniff...)
Brazil's art naïf is one of the richest, most beautiful, and diverse in the world. The Museu Internacional de Arte Naïf do Brasil in Cosme Velho, Rio de Janeiro, is the largest of its kind in the world. There are permanent exhibitions of Brazilian and international painters and special temporary exhibitions; museum shop, art courses, and guided tours.
The museum is at Rua Cosme Velho, 561; it's open Tuesday to Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM and on Holydays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 PM. It's very easy to find...right next door to the Corcovado Mountain Train Station. Not that it is expensive to get in...but your Corcovado train ticket will get you half price admission to the museum. Enjoy!
If you like art naïf you can catch some artists at the Feira Hippie -- still called that! -- at General Osório Square in the heart of Ipanema on Sundays. You never know...you may pick up a treasure!
